Teradyne’s primary business is the manufacture of leading edge electronics test equipment, and they are thought to be the largest such manufacturer in the world. Their products include circuit board testers for such products as cellular telephones and fighter aircraft where reliability is paramount, and chip testers for nearly all electronics manufacturers around the world.
Because of business growth, Teradyne found it necessary to expand three of their sales/service offices, located in Irvine, CA; Tempe, AZ; and Austin, TX; to house additional people, conferencing, and equipment demonstration spaces. A fourth office, in Allentown, PA, was to be re-established in a new facility offering twice the space of the old office. Each office expansion varied in scale and employee requirements, although most offices grew roughly 5,000 square feet, and included employee systems furniture cubicles, conference rooms, security systems, phone and data system expansions, bathrooms, and a large demonstration room to house special automobile-sized equipment modules of Teradyne’s manufacture.
In addition to the construction management, fit-up, and move planning and supervision of each phase and detail for each office, Fox provided contractor selection; vendor, architect, contractor and subcontractor coordination; furniture re-use planning; and internal move team organization, training and motivation. For the Allentown office, Fox participated earlier in the process, including site selection, lease negotiations, space programming, and architecture/design concept.
Results:
The moves were completed on time and within budget, allowing for continued growth during this peak period without overtaxing internal resources.
