Bain & Company

Q:

How do you keep valuable consultants billable during a major transition?

A:

By relying on an outside transition consultant.

Challenge:

Bain's move to new headquarters involved 114,000 square feet, 450 employees, new design and construction, and a voice/data/video network that was the command center of its worldwide operations.

Strategy:

Working as Bain’s team leader, we managed and monitored every phase of new construction from vendor selection to punch list resolution. We developed a move strategy with a contingency safety net. We streamlined offices and tested them for efficiency, installed a new aesthetic for client areas, and planned and implemented a new technology center. We maintained comprehensive cash-flow projections and schedules, identified and set-up the internal move teams -then managed the move.

Results:

Bain moved into its new headquarters on schedule and on budget with a minimum of disruption. Its critical voice/data/video networks were disconnected for only two hours on a Friday night, so not one of Bain’s 29 worldwide offices felt out of touch.

Now we’re on call as Bain’s facilities management team when peak demands arise. It’s pay-as-you-go efficiency.
